According to Morales’s Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), her net worth increased annually from P40.479 million in 2011. It reached P52.106 million in 2015 and increased to P54.13 million the following year.
The latest SALN disclosed property assets which include memorial lots in Parañaque City, three residential lots in Muntinlupa, a residential house and lot in Batangas, and condominium units in Baguio, Malate, Makati, and Taguig.
She also declared three relatives who are working for the government namely son Eugenio Morales III, a land examiner in the Registry of Deeds; brother Emmanuel Carpio, a trial court judge in Davao; and nephew Waldo Carpio, Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture.
The only liability Morales declared is the P88,000 worth of unspecified “personal items” from retail store Rustan’s.
The law mandates the Ombudsman to file another SALN within 30 days after her separation from service.
Morales, who will retire on July 26, was appointed by former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III in 2011. She has been in public service since 1971.
She has received appointments from other presidents from previous administrations including Ferdinand Marcos Sr., Corazon “Cory” Aquino, Fidel Ramos, and Gloria-Macapagal-Arroyo.
She served as a Regional Trial Court (RTC) judge in Pili City, Camarines Sur through Marcos’s appointment and in Pasay City through Cory Aquino’s appointment; working for the Department of Justice (DOJ) for a total of 12 years.
She was appointed by Ramos in 1994 as an associate justice in the Court of Appeals, and Arroyo appointed her in 2002 as an associate justice in the Supreme Court (SC).
This makes the Office of the Ombudsman, her fifth government office.
