Ches Crosbie beats Tony Wakeham for Newfoundland and Labrador PC leadership
JOHN’S, N.L. — Ches Crosbie has been elected as the new leader of the Newfoundland and Labrador Progressive Conservative Party and will lead the party into the 2019 provincial general election.
A lawyer based out of St. John’s, he’s the son of John Crosbie — one of Newfoundland’s best-known politicians and the province’s former lieutenant governor.
Crosbie delivered his victory speech Saturday evening at the party’s convention at the Delta Hotel in St.
John’s.
He ran against former Labrador-Grenfell Health CEO Tony Wakeham and took the leadership with 57 per cent of the vote.
Graydon Pelley will remain as the party’s president while Charlotte Halleran will take the role of vice-president.
Outgoing party leader Paul Davis says he will remain in the house of assembly, at least until the end of the current session.
