MANILA— The Department of Tourism (DOT) on Friday announced that the World’s Strongest Man (WSM) competition to be held in Manila will be open for public viewing.

During a press briefing, DOT Undersecretary Kat De Castro announced the schedule of activities for the WSM leg in Metro Manila.

On April 28, the circle of strength and load and carry event will be held at the Rizal Park, Manila.

Meanwhile, on the third day, April 30, events including the Bus Pull and Arm over Arm will be held in Quirino Grandstand.

On the fourth day, before the contestants’ three-day rest, Bonifacio Global City in Taguig will host the WSM Overhead Press (log), Overhead Press (dumbbells) and the Atlas Stones.

The events taking place across Manila are open and the admission is free to the public. Time schedule runs from 9 a. m. to 4 p.m.

British strongman Eddie Hall will defend the WSM title he won last year in the Republic of Botswana in South Africa. The 30-year-old Hall posted a world record deadlift on a 1,020-pound long bar.

“The entire Philippines is excited for the next few days, not only it will be concentrated in Manila, but a production group will also be going around the country to feature our famous destinations worldwide,” De Castro said.

The fun shoots will feature tourist sites in Tagaytay City, Bataan, Corregidor Island, Davao City, and Coron Island, Palawan.

De Castro said the Filipinos’ passion for competition is drawing more and more international sports events being held in the country, like the recent Ironman triathlon in Davao City.

As the country gears to be a sports tourism hub in the region, Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo said that other international sports events are expected to be held in the Philippines.
