Filipina assumes top UN post in Cambodia
MANILA— The Department of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday announced that Filipina Pauline Tamesis, has assumed the highest ranking post in the United Nations system in Cambodia.
As UN Resident Coordinator, Tamesis will oversee the UN family of more than 20 specialized agencies, as well as affiliated programmes and funds, in Cambodia.
At a welcome dinner hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Phnom Penh, Ambassador to Cambodia Christopher Montero expressed pride and honor on her assumption.
Montero cited that “the appointment of Tamesis as UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia is a source of pride for the Philippines and the Filipino community in Cambodia.”
“I am confident that she will be able to discharge her important duties with the same professionalism and excellence that Filipinos are known for,” he added.
Tamesis holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Georgetown University (USA) and a Bachelor’s degree in Management Economics from the Ateneo de Manila University.
Prior to her appointment, Tamesis was Chief Country Office Support of the UN Development Programme (UNDP) Bangkok Regional Hub (2016-2018) and Country Director of the UNDP Office in Bangladesh (2013-2016).
