Fancy balls, with 18 roses, 18 gifts, name it. While everyone expected a princess-like celebration from such a young actress, Alexa Ilacad chose to spend her day with something that she loves. It was not only her passion for acting, but she revealed that her love for the fur babies has been occupying the rest of her heart.

The young actress shared the warmth and happiness in celebrating her special day with the animals.

Alexa told Rated K that choosing to celebrate her 18th birthday at the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) with rescued animals made her day extra special. In late February, Alexa hosted a feeding program for dogs and cats.

Through Instagram, she also thanked the people who donated to prevent the dogs in Los Baños from being “put down.”

“I am so grateful for all your kind souls, & until now I still can’t help but tear up when I am reminded of your generosity in helping our furbabies in need,” she captioned.

“I don’t want a debut na (that is a) big fancy party. Hindi kasi ganun ang (That is not my) personality ko so this is the perfect way to celebrate my 18th birthday. To celebrate it with something I’m really passionate about,” she said on her Rated K feature.

Alexa said that shelter animals have melted her heart ever since she had her first rescued cat named Salem.

Parang nalunod siya sa (She drowned) in her own pee,” she said, reminiscing about Salem’s last moments.

Dahil ako hindi ako makapag-adopt sa sarili ko, ang ginagawa ko na lang is tutulungan ko ‘yung mga rescuers (Since I cannot adopt on my own, what I am doing is that I am helping the rescuers),” she uttered.

The “Good Son” actress also said that her love for animals only tripled when her best friend gave her Blush – a tiny Maltese.

Iba talaga (It is really different) when you say that a dog is a man’s best friend, napapatunayan talaga nila ‘yun eh (they can really prove it),” she said.
