PH places 2nd in Asian polo tourney; Romero named MVP
MANILA — The Philippine polo team captured a second place finish in the All Asia Cup at the VR Sports Club in Bangkok.
The Philippine squad, composed of Mikee Romero, Anthony, Adrian, and Ricardo Garcia, got its breakthrough finish after making the final for the first time ever on Saturday night.
Its Cinderella run, however, ended up short of a “happily-ever-after” finish after Thailand showed its championship pedigree in the final.
Behind Top and Tal Srivadhanprabha, the Thai polo team overpowered the Filipinos, 8.5-6, to take home the title.
Despite the Philippine team bowing in its first championship game appearance in the said tourney, Romero would still go home with silverware in his hands as he took home the MVP honors.
The Philippine polo team dedicates its runner-up finish to Romero’s son Migs, also a member of the said squad but passed away recently at a young age of 22.
