Day 15 of DOH firecracker injury watch: 20 hurt
MANILA – The health department reported another 20 firecracker-related injuries, five days after the New Year revelry, with the partial total now numbering 449 cases since December 21.
According to the department’s Aksyon Paputok Injury Reduction 2017 Report No. 15, the figure is 421 or 48 percent cases lower than the 2012-2016 average and 182 or 29 percent cases lower than the same period last year.
The National Capital Region continued to be at the top in terms of the number of cases per region, recording 243 injuries, with Manila accounting for nearly half with 114.
No death, fireworks ingestion or stray bullet injury has been reported.
The illegal firecracker Piccolo was the main culprit, accounting for 149 of the 449 injuries, followed by Kwitis, with 52 injuries.
The report came from 43 sentinel hospitals across the country.
