Petron, F2 Logistics reach PSL Grand Prix finals
MANILA — Petron and F2 Logistics scored contrasting victories on Saturday night to reach the finals of the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Petron banked on the explosive performances of American imports Lindsay Marie Stalzer and Hillary Hurley to prevail over two-time champion Foton, 30-28, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, while F2 Logistics stamped its class over Cocolife, 25-17, 25-16, 25-17, in the sudden-death semifinal round.
Game One of the best-of-three finals is scheduled at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan. The battle for third place between Foton and Cocolife is at 4:15 p.m.
The 6-foot-1 Stalzer from Illinois had a game-high 25 points, while the 6-foot-2 Hurley had 21 kills and two blocks for the Blaze Spikers.
“We were tense in the first set. Fortunately, we still managed to win it. That (first) set win was very crucial,” said Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos after the match.
Meanwhile, F2 Logistics got double-digit scores from Venezuelan import Maria Jose Perez and American import Kennedy Bryan to beat Cocolife.
The 6-foot-2 Perez, who competed at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, scored 18 points, while Bryan, a 6-foot-1 player from Atlanta, Georgia, contributed 13 points for the 2016 All-Filipino Conference champion Cargo Movers.
American imports Shar Latai Manu-Olevao and Taylor Milton finished with 13 and 10 points, respectively for Cocolife.
