Antique University swimming champ in sports meet

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The University of Antique (UA) swimming team emerged the overall champion in the State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association (SCUAA) 2017 swimming competition.

UA swimming team won 25 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze medals in 42 swimming events that started Dec. 4 following the SCUAA 2017 opening Sunday afternoon.

Students of state universities and colleges in Western Visayas took part in the SCUAA 2017 hosted by UA in this province.

The team, which is considered to be Antique’s pride, is composed of Marven Jay Alojipan, RonnelChristiaRemetio, Caroline Anne Galedo, RosheilGorero, Fernando Vista Jr., LoidaBerbide, Normie Joy Malutao, Allan Pagsuguiron, Mark Anthony Basilan, Ma. Fe Saturnino, Kenneth Labitoria, GlorileneObdamen, JhannahRisaHacob, Kyle Joshua Sebastian, ReymarCaspe, RanessaMolowa.

They were coached by Katherine Santillan, Rose Mae Mena, and Corazon Alcarde.

“We motivate them to practice daily, and provide them moral and financial support by looking for sponsors”, said Mena.

“The difficulties like lack of available transportation and delayed food during the competition served as triggering motivation for the team to strive and become the champion. I feel really proud of my team and the achievement they gave to the school,” she said.

Central Philippine State University (CPSU) ranked second place in the overall result with 22 gold, 21 silver, and four bronze medals while Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT-U) ranked third with 12 gold, nine silver, and 15 bronze medals.
