Retired Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Dionisio Santiago has retired from his post as the Chairman of Dangerous Drugs Board.

Santiago’s retirement came after his frank statement on the establishment of 100,000-square-meter Mega Drug Abuse Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Magsaysay in Palayan, Nueva Ecija, saying that the proposal to construct the facility was a “mistake and impractical.”

“The President was excited but money spent building that could have been spent for smaller community-based rehabilitation centers which could accommodate only 150 or 200,” Dionisio earlier said.

President Rodrigo Duterte has reportedly the one who told Dionisio to resign from his post.

“Exec. Sec. Medialdea spoke to Santiago the other day. Santiago submitted his one page, two sentences resignation yesterday,” Radyo Inquirer’s Arlyn dela Cruz said in a Twitter post.

“My rule is the boss is always right and if you think the boss is not right, refer to rule No. 1?” Santiago was quoted as saying.

Santiago said that he respects the decision of the chief executive.
