MANILA — The traffic flow along the west-bound side of Quezon Ave. from Elliptical Road to Agham Road in Quezon City is expected to improve with the completion of the PHP62 million widening and drainage improvement project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said from four lanes, the 571-lineal meter portion of Quezon Ave. west bound has been widened to six lanes.

“The two additional lanes will cater to at least 164 public utility jeeps (PUJs), 427 private cars, and 321 motorcycles per hour during rush hour,” he said in a statement.

Villar, together with National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General Ernesto Pernia, led the inauguration of the project on Friday.

He noted that aside from traffic decongestion, the road has a reinforced concrete box culvert that would mitigate flooding in the area.

The new drainage system will particularly increase the capacity of the Tanque Creek by 112 percent as it now measures 5.3 meters by 3 meters, bigger than the previous 3 meters by 2.5 meters box culvert along the road.

The project is aligned with the existing two outermost service lane approaching Agham Road and EDSA where traffic is being decongested. (PNA)
