Indonesian, Malaysian lead 1st block in Asian Youth Bowling tilt

MANILA – Indonesian Billy Muhammad Islam and Malaysian Faten Najihah on Friday night topped the first block Masters finals in their respective divisions in the 19th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships at the Coronado Lanes at EDSA Starmall in Mandaluyong.

Islam, the doubles silver medalist, tallied 1824 pinfalls to take the boys’ division lead in the tournament organized by the Philippine Bowling Federation, headed by Steve Hontiveros.

Team gold medalist, Korean Lee Ju Hung, finished second with 1745 pinfalls, while Australian Blayne Fletcher was third with 1734 pinfalls.

Chinese Taipei’s Liao Li-Yang of Chinese Taipei placed fourth with 1703 pinfalls, while Korean Park Geon Ha was fifth with 1677 pinfalls.

In the girls’ division, team silver medalist Najihah led the first block with a total of 1750 pinfalls after winning the seventh (233) and eighth (224) games.

Korean Kim Ye Sol, who won the singles gold medal, tallied 1722 pinfalls for second place while her compatriot, Lee Jung Min, came in third with 1706 pinfalls.

Singaporean Amabel Chua, a team gold medalist and silver medalist in the 2016 World Youth Masters, settled for fourth place with 1681 pinfalls.

Malaysian Nur Amirah Auni, a silver medalist in the singles and team events, finished fifth with 1678 pinfalls.

The finalists will play another round to determine the Top 3 boys and girls who will advance to the Stepladder Grand Finals.
