MMDA issues traffic advisory for 31st ASEAN Summit

MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is advising motorists that roads in parts of Metro Manila will experience traffic congestion during the 31st Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit in November.

In its traffic advisory, the MMDA stated that the following areas will be affected during the country’s hosting of the summit on November 11 to 15, 2017:

Clark Complex

Along Subic Clark Tarlac Expressway (Clark to NLEX)

Along North Luzon Expressway (SCTEX to Balintawak)

Along EDSA (Balintawak to Magallanes)

Along Diokno Boulevard (Entertainment City to Buendia)

Along Roxas Boulevard (Buendia to P. Burgos)

CCP Complex

Along Ayala (EDSA to Makati Avenue)

Along Makati Avenue (Ayala to Pasay Road)

Along Pasay Road (EDSA to Amorsolo)

Along Lawton (5th Avenue to SLEX)

Along 5th Avenue (Lawton to 30th Avenue)

Along McKinley (EDSA to 5th Avenue)

The MMDA added that the SMX Convention Center will be on lockdown from 11PM of November 11 to November 12; CCP Complex on November 12 and Roxas Boulevard from Buendia to P. Burgos on November 13 from 12:01 AM until noon.

Heavy traffic is expected in these areas and motorists are advised to take alternate routes.

All trucks and closed vans will not be allowed to traverse along SCTEX/NLEX from Clark to Balintawak and along EDSA from Balintawak to Magallanes from November 11 to 15.

The MMDA said a modified stop-and-go traffic schemes along the routes of the convoy will be enforced. In the scheme, vehicles of the delegates of ASEAN and their convoy will be prioritized.

A full stop of traffic will be observed five minutes before a convoy passes through, but the volume of traffic will determine the duration of the stop-and-go scheme on each intersection. (PNA)
