Helicopter crashes on Vancouver Island

CAMPBELL RIVER, Canada — Officials say a helicopter has crashed on Vancouver Island.

The Joint Rescue Co-Ordination Centre says the aircraft went down near the Campbell River airport on Sunday afternoon.

The centre says local ambulance, fire crews and police are en route to the scene, along with a military helicopter based in Comox.

It’s unclear how many people were on board the helicopter or their condition following the crash.
