CIDG probes cops involved in Caloocan teener’s shooting
MANILA — The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) is the unit in charge of probing the three police implicated in the shooting of 17-year-old Kian Loyd Delos Santos during an anti-drug operation in Caloocan City last August 16.
This was bared by Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Dir. Gen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, adding that he has directed the CIDG to conduct the investigation as speedily as possible, a Radyo Pilipinas report said Monday.
He added that the weapons of the three officers, who were all relieved from duty and currently detailed at the Regional Police Holding and Accounting Unit, are now undergoing ballistics tests.
It can be recalled that PO3 Arnel Oares, PO1 Jeremiah Pereda and PO1 Jerwin Cruz were relieved from their posts following the death of Delos Santos.
Allegedly, it was Oares who shot and killed the victim.
Dela Rosa also said that the PNP-Internal Affairs Services is also investigating the three on whether they committed any lapses in the operation.
Initial reports claimed that the victim was shot dead by law men after he fired shots at officers conducting anti-narcotics operations in the area.
However, Delos Santos’ family belied these claims as they have seen CCTV footage allegedly showing lawmen dragging the victim before shooting him dead. (PNA)
