Honasan on ‘pork’ raps: I’m completely innocent
MANILA, Aug. 10 — Over a week after being charged with two counts of graft by the Office of the Ombudsman over his alleged misuse of his PHP30-million pork barrel fund in 2012, Senator Gringo Honasan on Thursday said that he is “completely innocent” and ready to prove it.
“I am completely innocent of the charges against me,” Honasan, former military leader, said in a short press statement.
Honasan said that he has faced several allegations all his life and that this new one is not any different.
“All my life I have fought everything I am accused of, and I will continue to do so,” he added.
On Thursday, the Sandiganbayan Second Division ordered Honasan’s arrest citing “probable cause” to arrest him for graft.
Honasan is the fourth senator to be charged for pork barrel fund misuse. Other senators charged were former senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. who were charged with graft in 2014.
In 2013, the Supreme Court deemed the pork barrel as “unconstitutional.”
