1,837 families affected by Leyte quake
MANILA — Around 1,837 families or 9,185 individuals in Leyte have been reported affected by the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that hit Ormoc City and nearby areas last July 6.
In its 8 p.m. update Sunday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said those affected are clustered in 14 barangays of the province.
NDRRMC Administrator Ricardo Jalad said around 365 persons are sheltered at an evacuation center operated by the Kananga municipal government while the remaining 1,765 families or 8,820 individuals are staying with their relatives.
The number of fatalities remained at two, six were rescued, while those wounded and injured were placed at 329.
A total of 1,765 houses were reported damaged in Leyte, with 735 totally damaged and 1,029 partially damaged.
Initial assessments placed the quake damages to PHP51.78 million.
