DND chief ‘not ok’ with deployment of erring cops in Marawi
MANILA — Deployment of erring police officers in Marawi City does not sit well with Department of National Defense (DND) Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
And while clarifying that he is not questioning the decision of the Philippine National Police (PNP) leadership to do so, continuation of such practice may damage and have a negative effect on the organization.
“Not against because that is their decision, the PNP (is) not under my jurisdiction. I am just questioning the wisdom of doing so.
Their punishment should not be a Marawi assignment but sanctions such as suspension without pay or outright dismissal from the service,” Lorenzana pointed out.
He was referring to PNP Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa’s order to send to Marawi two Mandaluyong police officers accused of hitting two civilians with a “yantok” cane.
The two were allegedly beaten for drinking liquor outside their homes which is in violation of a Mandaluyong ordinance.
