Pangilinan confident impeachment complaint vs VP Robredo will be dismissed
MANILA 一 Liberal Party (LP) president Sen. Francis Pangilinan on Wednesday said that he was confident that the impeachment case filed against Vice Pres. Leni Robredo would be dismissed.
In an interview, Pangilinan said that thought that the case was “pulled out of thin air” and “completely baseless.”
To recall, a group of lawyers composed of Bruce Rivera, Trixie Angeles, Tom Berenguer, and Prof. Antonio Contreras, among others sought the ouster of Robredo for her video message to the United Nations where she criticized the administration’s anti-drug campaign.
Pangilinan, also a lawyer, said that clear, free speech, is non-impeachable. And in fact, protected by the Constitution.
“Freedom of speech is a constitutionally protected right. It is not an impeachable. I’m optimistic that the congressmen see that we do not consider free speech as impeachable,” Pangilinan said.
“We are confident that the truth will prevail and ultimately the impeachment will be dismissed,” he added.
He also urged the public to maintain vigilance and take action to prevent what the forced impeachment which he described as “bullying.”
The lawyers who filed a case against Robredo also cited her alleged “misdeclaration” of her Meralco shares stated only as “business interests” in her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth and her alleged “sponsoring” of a national convention on empowerment, not housing, in the United States using Pag-IBIG funds.
