President Duterte to hold dialogue with employers, workers on eve of Labor Day
MANILA— President Rodrigo Duterte will hold a dialogue with employers and workers on April 30, a day before the country’s observance of Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced on Wednesday.
DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the “Pre-Labor Day Assembly with the President” will be held at the Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) in Quezon City at 3:00 p.m.
“It would include not only select trade union leaders but also ordinary workers in all sectors (youth, women, migrant, public, informal and formal),” he said in a press briefing.
Bello added that they are also expecting some 1,000 workers to attend the meeting.
On the other hand, the DOLE chief revealed that there will be over 50 simultaneous job and business fairs all over the country on May 1 in celebration of Labor Day.
The job and business fairs dubbed as “Trabaho, Negosyo at Kabuhayan (TNK)” aims to provide more jobs and promote entrepreneurship at the grassroots level.
“I have instructed our Bureau of Local Employment to have more sites in regions outside greater Manila area so more job opportunities are offered in the provinces,” he said.
The main venue for the job and business fairs in the National Capital Region (NCR) will be at the Quezon City Hall.
Aside from the activities before and during Labor Day, the DOLE will be showcasing more activities in the month-long celebration of Araw ng Manggagawa include: DOLE clinics where the department and its attached agencies will provide services such as pre-employment services (coaching, career information, seminars/trainings), labor standard enforcement, dispute resolution and livelihood assistance.
Also, the Informal Economy Labor Day, where a forum for workers in the informal sector, highlighting success stories of program beneficiaries will be held on May 6 in Davao City and the special job fair for National Housing Authority (NHA) relocates in selected areas of NCR, Regions, 3 and 4A, in coordination with the NHA on May 8 and 9.
