Javier is new BI Associate Commissioner
MANILA—The Department of Justice (DOJ) named Tobias Javier as new Associate Commissioner of Bureau of Immigration, replacing Al Argosino who has been tagged in the bribery scandal involving Chinese gaming tycoon Jack Lam.
Justice Undersecretary Erickson Balmes told reporters that Javier took his oath of office before Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II on Tuesday afternoon.
Javier, a former Antique board member replaced Argosino who was fired, along with another associate commissioner Michael Robles, by President Rodrigo Duterte last December over allegations that they extorted PHP50 million from Lam in November.
Balmes said that no one has been appointed yet to replace Robles.
