PNP chief spearheads inspection of NCR commuter hubs
MANILA—Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald dela Rosa on Tuesday spearheaded the inspection of commuter terminals in the National Capital Region (NCR) to see to it that security measures in “areas of convergence” are properly implemented.
With the exodus of millions of vacationers to the provinces expected to peak on Holy Tuesday and Holy Wednesday, the PNP is actively focusing on their safe travel.
The PNP chief first went to the Araneta bus terminal in Cubao, Quezon City where he witnessed a “simulated bomb exercise”.
During the simulation, security personnel cordoned off the area and waited for the arrival of the Explosives and Ordnance Division K-9 unit, bomb squad and emergency rescuers.
Dela Rosa called on the public to help thwart any threat by immediately reporting to authorities any suspicious object or individual.
He further stressed the big role that private security guards play in thwarting terrorist attacks, saying that they are the first responders in such situations.
The PNP chief was also scheduled to inspect the bus terminal in Pasay rotonda, in Pasay City; the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3; the Baclaran Church in Parañaque City; and the pier in Manila.
