Trillanes faces new ethics complaint
MANILA –Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV is currently facing an ethics complaint for two allegations he previously made against Court of Appeals (CA) justices and Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, a Senator said Tuesday.
Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III, chair of the Senate Committee on Ethics, said that he received the complaint against Trillanes on Monday.
Sotto said the complaint was filed by lawyer Aberlardo de Jesus, who has also filed an ethics complaint against detained Sen. Leila de Lima.
He said De Jesus’ complaint was based on Trillanes allegations that two CA justices accepted bribes from former Makati Mayor Junjun Binay in 2015 to halt his suspension and for calling Pres. Duterte a “murderer”.
“Nagbintang siya ng bribery. The other issue is yung kay Pres. Duterte, yung pagtawag ng mga murderer (He accused [justices] of bribery. The other issue was about Pres. Duterte, his calling him a murderer),” Sotto told reporters.
The CA later found Trillanes guilty of indirect contempt of court and was fined PHP30,000.
Trillanes, meanwhile, said that he is ready to face the complaint.
