MANILA –Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa on Monday admitted that they already wanted to return to the war against illegal drugs.

Dela Rosa said that while the time takes longer that they are out of the “war on drugs”, the problem worsens.

In fact, he said, when he visited Kalinga and Zamboanga City, all the officials from barangay captain to governor, who he had talked to, asked him to bring back the policemen in eradicating drugs because the drug pushers and users in their areas are “lording it over” again.

The PNP chief stressed that he also received a report that the drug pushers are proliferating in the streets again.

However, Dela Rosa said that even if the local government officials would like to bring back the PNP in the campaign against illegal drugs, he would not recommend it to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte because they would not like to pre-empt the President.

Likewise, Dela Rosa pointed out they need not finish the “internal cleansing” before returning to the “war on drugs” because the cleansing of their ranks is for an indefinite period.
