NDRRMC sends 2nd shipment of aid to Surigao

MANILA –The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) continues to augment the resources of the local governments of Surigao del Norte to aid kababayans who survived the 6.7 magnititude earthquake.

Anytime from now, two shipments of supplies and equipment from the Departments of Social Welfare and Development and Health are expected to be delivered Monday in Surigao City.The first C-130 plane left around 7 am this morning while another is being filled up at Villamor Airbase as of this writing.

DSWD has sent a mobile kitchen (3.9 m in length, 1.9 m in width and 1.5 m) to support the preparation of meals for survivors.

The Agency likewise packed 10,000 High Energy Bisquitsand 4,090 Brown Rice (pinawa) Bars to compliment the food provided by local governments.

Also part in the shipment are 130 rolls of laminated sacks and 5,000 pieces of plastic mats.

On the other hand, DOH will be sending Campolas kit (50 pieces), family kit (1,000 pieces), jerry cans (500 pieces), hygiene kits (500 pieces) at family tents (25 pieces) Campolas kits are set of medicines for disaster related diseases: Cotrimoxazole, Amoxicillin, Mefenamic acid, Paracetamol, Oresol, Lagundi, Vitamin A and skin ointment.

The jerry cans are the familiar water containers with faucet.

The first batch of relief goods and supplies were sent and distributed Sunday in Surigao City.

President Duterte on Sunday visited the earthquake survivors in Surigao City and assured more assistance to come to help them rise up from the calamity caused by the Friday night quake.

Director Vic Tomazar, Office of Civil Defense Operation Service head said NDRRMC has been monitoring the events in Caraga right after the occurrence of the earthquake Friday night last week.

The council was convened and draw up plans to assist the local governments of Surigao Del Norte.

Tomazar likewise lauded the local governments units for their quick responses and disaster risk reduction management of the event.
