Aguirre congratulates Dela Rosa on being retained by President Duterte
MANILA—Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II on Monday congratulated Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Ronald “Bato” M. Dela Rosa on being retained by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.
Aguirre was the guest of honor and speaker during the 64th Anniversary of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Monday.
In his speech, Aguirre said he is not joining the calls for the resignation of the PNP chief, noting that he knows Dela Rosa is doing everything he can in order to address the problems of the PNP.
He cited the PNP is now clouded with controversy surrounding the case of South Korean national Jee Ick Joo who was allegedly killed by policemen.
Aguirre said he believes there are only some groups who are trying to destroy Dela Rosa so that the damage will hit the campaign of the President against illegal drugs.
He added the enemies of the President know that Dela Rosa is the symbol of the campaign against illegal drugs.
The DOJ chief assured the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) will continuously cooperate with the PNP in order to address the deep controversy the PNP is now facing with the death of the South Korean businessman.
The South Korean was allegedly abducted in Angeles City, Pampanga and subsequently killed inside Camp Crame on Oct. 18, 2016.
