Lady senators file reso denouncing showing of De Lima’s video in House probe
MANILA—Lady senators on Monday filed a resolution condemning the proposal of presenting the alleged intimate videos of Senator Leila De Lima before congressional hearings on the alleged illegal drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP).
Under Senate Resolution No. 184, initiated by Senator Risa Hontiveros, she stressed that the proposal to show De Lima’s video is “illegal, violative of inter-parliamentary courtesy and decency, and an affront to women’s dignity.”
“Today (Monday), we close ranks to fight for the dignity of every woman,” Hontiveros said.
The resolution was signed by Senators Cynthia Villar, Nancy Binay, Grace Poe and Loren Legarda.
The lady senators described the showing of the video as a violation of Republic Act 9995, or the Anti-photo or Video Voyeurism Act of 2009, and Republic Act 4200, or the Anti-Wiretapping Law.
Hontiveros for her part said the plan to present De Lima’s alleged video is “state-sponsored sexism.”
“It is an attack against our mothers, sisters, wives and people with different sexual orientation and gender identity or expression,” Hontiveros said.
“Using taxpayer’s money, and the legislature, they are promoting the systemic degradation of women. We will not allow this,” she added.
The resolution also said the plan violates the time-honored principle of inter-parliamentary courtesy given to incumbent lawmakers.
