Superstar Duets premieres this September 4

Experience entertainment at its finest as GMA Network launches its newest celebrity singing competition Superstar Duets beginning September 4 on its flagship international channel GMA Pinoy TV.

A first in the Philippines, Superstar Duets will surely give Kapuso viewers an extraordinary and more enjoyable TV viewing experience as it showcases one-of-a-kind duet performances from 8 Filipino celebrities and surprise international superstars every Saturday night.

All set to host this program is Ultimate Star Jennylyn Mercado while the panel of judges are comedian/TV host Allan K, Traffic Diva Aicelle Santos and Asia’s Romantic Balladeer Christian Bautista.

Jennylyn said she cannot contain her excitement not only to be part of an exceptional comedy-slash-talent show but also to witness how the contestants will execute their performances.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to this show.  I know it’s going to be fun kasi singing contest siya na celebrities ang contestants. Aabangan ko kung paano gagawin ng mga contenders yung performances nila plus yung superstars na makaka-duet nila ay magagaling talaga [I’m really excited and looking forward to this show. I know it’s going to be fun because it’s a singing contest where celebrities are the contestants. I’m waiting to see how the contenders will do their performance, plus the superstars they will do a duet with are really good],” the award-winning actress shared.

Team work is what Allan K looks for every time he judges the contestants. “When you’re in a duet, you’re in a team. So, ang hinahanap ko ay marunong dapat makipag-blend sa boses ng kanyang ka-duet, marunong makipag-interact sa kanyang ka-duet. Hindi siya nagsosolo. Ayoko na nagdu-duet mag-isa. Dapat isipin niya may kasama siya because it’s a team [When you’re in a duet, you’re in a team. So what I’m looking for is one who knows how to blend with the voice of their duet partner, and one who knows how to interact with their duet partner. One who doesn’t do it solo. I don’t like someone who does a duet on their own. He should remember that he has a partner because it’s a team]”

As a singer himself, Christian said it is important that the contestants will make a connection with him in their performances. “I know these artists are going to do everything they can, kaya kung magco-connect yung performance nila sa akin, kung yung puso ko and my being ay mamo-move at matatawa at mag-eenjoy, dun ako.

Sa kanya ako [I know these artists are going to do everything they can. I’ll go with those whose performances can connect with me, if my heart and my being will be moved, and I will be entertained and I will enjoy].”

On the other hand, Aicelle defines the show as a combination of entertainment and talent so it is an imperative that the contestants should always remember the blending of the two. “Ang Superstar Duets bukod sa kantahan ay very entertaining din. So I think it’s a mix of the two.

Syempre yung coherence ng contestants at yung foreign superstar dapat sabay silang dadalhin to the next level sa bawat performance nila [Aside from being a singing experience, Superstar Duets is also very entertaining. So I think it’s a mix of the two. Of course, the coherence of the contestants and the foreign superstar should take them to the next level with each performance].”

Competing to become the first Superstar Duets Champion are the witty and funny celebrities Mike “Pekto” Nacua, Joross Gamboa, Jerald Napoles, Rita Daniela, Denise Barbacena, Nar Cabico, Divine Grace, Osang.
