DOJ ready to probe PNP generals linked to illegal drugs

MANILA—The Department of Justice (DOJ) is ready for the possibility that the criminal cases against the Philippine National Police (PNP) generals named by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who are allegedly involved in illegal drugs will be filed before them.

According to some DOJ officials who spoke on condition of anonymity, they would not want to be identified because of the possibility that the cases to be filed against the said PNP generals will be assigned to them.

They noted that the cases against government officials who are being accused of corruption are frequently filed before the DOJ.

During his speech at the 69th anniversary of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) in Clark, Mabalacat City, Pampanga on Tuesday, President Duterte named the five PNP generals as former Director Gen. Marcelo Garbo, Jr. and Gen. Vicente Loot, including the generals in active service, namely, Gen. Bernardo Diaz of the Police Regional Office 6, former National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Gen. Joel Pagdilao and former Quezon City Police District (QCPD) chief Gen. Edgardo Tinio.

Meanwhile, former Gen. Loot was elected mayor of Daanbantayan, Cebu in the May 9 elections.
