PET to tackle Marcos’ election protest on Tuesday
MANILA—The Supreme Court (SC) Justices are set to discuss the election protest filed by former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. against Vice President Leonor “Leny” Robredo.
The election protest of Marcos will be included in the agenda of the Supreme Court (SC) en banc on Tuesday.
The SC Justices are expected to discuss and deliberate the case of Marcos as to its initial action to the said case.
The SC will sit as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) with the same members headed by Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. Aranal Sereno and the 14 SC Associate Justices.
The case went to the classmate of former President Benigno S. Aquino III in the person of SC Associate Justice Alfredo Benjamin S. Caguioa.
In his petition, Marcos asked the PET to set aside Robredo’s proclamation and to declare him the duly-elected vice president.
He challenged the election results in 39,221 clustered precincts in 25 provinces and five cities in the country.
He included in his 1,000-page petition 20,000 pages of affidavits, certificates of canvass (COCs) and other supporting documents to support his claim of fraud in the last May 9 national and local elections.
