Canada out of running for an Oscar for best foreign language film
LOS ANGELES—A Canadian film that was in the running for an Oscar nomination has been eliminated.
Maxime Giroux’s “Felix et Meira” was selected as Canada’s Oscar hopeful in the best foreign-language film category.
But organizers for the 88th Academy Awards say “Felix et Meira” didn’t make the latest cut of nine films that will advance to the next round of voting.
A total of 80 films had been considered in the category.
“Felix et Meira” stars Martin Dubreuil and Hadas Yaron and deals with the unusual romance between a married Orthodox Jewish woman and a young man mourning his father’s death in Montreal’s Mile End neighbourhood.
The 88th Academy Awards will be held Feb.
28.
