Toronto stock market opens lower, oil and gold prices fall
TORONTO – The Toronto Stock Exchange headed lower in early trading as the prices for gold and oil also dropped.
The S&P/TSX composite index slipped 1.06 points to 13,406.77.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrials gained 15.37 points at 17,827.56, while the broader S&P 500 index edged up 0.83 of a point at 2,089.97.
The Nasdaq composite added 4.87 points at 5,107.68.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract lost US$3.80 at US$1,070.00, while the January crude oil contract fell 69 cents US$42.18.
The January contract for natural gas lost 3.1 cents at US$2.293.
The Canadian dollar fell 0.12 of a cent at 75.02 cents U.S.
