New York market posts triple digit gain, Toronto market edges higher
TORONTO – The Toronto Stock Exchange edged higher in late morning trading as U.S. markets posted a triple-digit gain.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up a scant 1.48 points at 13,475.31.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrials gained 147.79 points at 17,880.54, while the broader S&P 500 index climbed 13.06 points at 2,094.30.
The Nasdaq composite added 32.29 points at 5,105.93.
On the commodity markets, the December gold contract gained US$1.60 at US$1,079.5, while the January crude oil contract fell 17 cents to US$41.55.
The December contract for natural gas dropped 8.7 cents to US$2.189.
The Canadian dollar dropped 0.20 of a cent at 75.00 cents U.S.
