Sen. Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos Jr. said yesterday that he is willing to be a party to a DNA test with Sen. Grace Poe-Llamanzares.

“Sure, I can undergo DNA test, no problem. “I don’t see how will that help her but if it will, why not?” Marcos told Manila Bulletin.

Poe, the adopted daughter of actors Fernando Poe and Susan Roces has recently undergone a DNA test with two of her suspected relatives in Iloilo province. The results were negative.

Marcos and Poe were rumored to be half-siblings. The two senators have called each other “bro” and “sis” at the senate.

Marcos said in the same report that if tests would prove that he and Poe were related, he would tell her: “Welcome to the family!”

Meanwhile, Poe is happy of Marcos’ offer to help.

“I don’t want also to involve Senator Marcos but I’m happy that he is open to the idea,” said Poe in the same report.

Poe has emphasized that she did not undergo DNA tests only to prove her citizenship but for personal reasons as well.

“I’ve been looking for them (biological relatives) for a long time even just for medical records,” Poe said in Filipino.

Poe’s spokesperson and Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian, in a Manila Bulletin report, said that Poe will still be undergoing more DNA tests not to be used as instrument to dismiss disqualification cases against the senator but “for personal consumption”.

“The results of the DNA are not the basis of her position that she is natural born (Filipino).  She has said before that the DNA was an extra step on her part and done for her personal consumption,” added Gatchalian.
