Inventors get funding support from DOST
As part of its continuing efforts to support Filipino inventors, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Technology Application and Promotion Institute (TAPI),recently granted financial assistance to two inventors.
They are Ricardo David, chairman of David Motors Trading and Renewable Energy Development Corporation and Eduardo Capule.
David received ₱ 1,135,672 for the fabrication of his invention’s prototype. He invented an Eco-jeep which runs on an LPG fueled engine. LPG-fueled vehicles are said to emit less carbon dioxide and other harmful emissions than their conventional counterparts.
The assistance is under the Industry-Based InventionDevelopment Program of TAPI which supports the production of an invention’s first working model. The said amount will be repaid to TAPI, interest free, within three years time.
Meanwhile, Capule received₱30,000 for the pilot production and market testing of his improved food container.
The said container is made of food grade plastic with tin plate cover and can be a substitute for tin cans in canned food production. Capule said that his creation will dramatically reduce the packaging costs of food from 30-35 percent since plastic is more affordable.
The assistance is under TAPI’s Invention-Based Enterprise Development Program which aims to help inventors create businesses out of their invention. It covers pilot production, field/market testing and formulation of systems and procedures in preparation for a larger production scale.
