CNN Philippines lays off 70 employees
MANILA – As part of a manpower adjustment program to improve financials, CNN Philippines laid off about 30 junior employees and 40 contractual workers who were involved in the television channel’s programming and operations.
“We developed some programs when we started and we hired too many people.
So we’re making adjustments,” CNN Philippines director Benjamin Ramos said in a Philippine Daily Inquirer report.
“We are improving our shows. We want a chance for this industry to have something different from what other players are doing,” Ramos added.
CNN Philippines, owned and operated by Nine Media Corporation together with Radio Philippines Network (RPN), has been launched in March this year. It has been the local franchise of the Cable News Network (CNN), replacing 9TV.
Earlier this year, GMA Network also terminated the contracts of some of its employees in regional stations as part of a ‘strategic streamlining of programs and manpower in its provincial stations to ensure business competitiveness.’
