Vice Ganda sees ‘healthy competition’ with AlDub, Eat Bulaga
MANILA – Vice Ganda acknowledged Showtime and Eat Bulaga’s ‘healthy competition,’ noting that ABS-CBN and GMA-7’s rivalry has long been there.
Vice Ganda also knew about the ‘AlDub fever’ – Alden Richards and Yaya Dub’s (Maine Mendoza) popular loveteam in Eat Bulaga’s kalyeserye segment, wherein the onscreen couple only see each other through television screens and exchange messages through Dubsmash.
“Bago pa naman nagka-AlDub, talagang may kumpetisyon na ang ABS at ang GMA. Hindi lang naman Showtime saka Eat Bulaga,” he said in a Philippine Entertainment Portal report. “Teleserye nila, kakumpitensiya ng teleserye namin… lahat.”
(Even before there was AlDub, there has already been a competition between [ABS-CBN] and GMA. It’s not just Showtime and Eat Bulaga… Their teleseryes compete with our teleseryes… everything.)
“Kaya napakaipokrita, napakaipokrito na pagka sinabi ko, ‘Naku, walang kumpetisyon!” he added. “May kumpetisyon ‘yan, and it’s a healthy competition.”
(That’s why it’ll be hypocritical if I say, ‘No, there’s no competition!’ There’s a competition, and it’s a healthy competition.)
When asked if Showtime would also add a Dubsmash segment, Vice Ganda quickly denied planning such segment.
Last week, however, the Showtime host portrayed as Miss Minchin while guest Dawn Zulueta played the role of Princess Sarah and both lip-synced the “Papaya Song” on the show’s “Lip Swak” segment. Many viewers then asked if this was Showtime’s comeback to the AlDub fever.
