Soldier, rebel killed in Quezon clash
MANILA — A clash between army soldiers and the New People’s Army killed one rebel and a soldier and left four other soldiers wounded on Sunday afternoon.
Spokesperson of the Armed Forces Southern Luzon Command (Solcom) Major Angelo Guzman said that the clash, which occurred near the vicinity of the coal-fired plant lasted for two hours.
Guzman said the slain soldier was identified as Corporal Michael Lubian, of the 85th Infatry Battalion.
He added that they are yet to confirm the identification of the NPA rebel.
The soldiers who were wounded in the clash, Jeffrey C. Morales, Isabelo M. Pascua, Louie M. Tapiador and Ronel L, Diorda, were immediately brought to the Doña Marta Memorial District Hospital in Atimonan.
Guzman added that they were airlifted to V.
Luna Medical Center in Quezon City following the initial treatment.
