MANILA — Palawan Gov. Jose Ch. Alvarez is set to lead the kick-off ceremony on Tuesday (July 14) of a year-long campaign that is expected to boost tourism and investment opportunities in the province.

In partnership with the Palawan Tourism Council, Department of Tourism (DOT), the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the University of Asia and the Pacific (UAP), the province will launch the “World’s Best Island Tourism and Investment Expo.”

The expo, which will consist of two grand events showcasing Palawan, will be staged in Makati Central Business District.

It will start with the opening of Palawan Investment Forum to be held at the Hotel Intercontinental on July 28, and the Travel and Trade Fair at the Glorietta Palm Drive Activity Center on Aug. 7 to 11.

Joining Alvarez are USAID-COMPETE and UAP President Dr. Winston Padojinog, who will discuss why Palawan is the best investment destination in the world.

The kick-off ceremony will be held at the Makati Shangrila Hotel.

For the past three years, Palawan has been voted as Best Island in the World by different international travel and lifestyle magazines.

Just last May, a Palawan resort made it to the list of US travel magazine, Conde Nast Traveler’s 30 Best Resorts in Asia.

According to the Conde Nast website, El Nido Pangulasian in Palawan ranked 30th and 12th on the magazine’s Reader’s Choice Awards 2014.

The magazine described the resort as a “luxurious hideaway (a quick boat trip from the airport)” to the island biosphere featured in The Bourne Legacy.
