Canadian Curtis Cassidy advances to Showdown Sunday at Calgary Stampede

CALGARY — Canadian Curtis Cassidy earned himself a spot in Sunday’s Showdown at the Calgary Stampede with the second fastest time in the tie-down roping event.

With cowboys needing a top-two showing on Wild Card Saturday to advance, the Donalda, Alta. native finished in 7.7 seconds. Clint Robinson of the United States also qualified with a time of 7.1.

edged out American Ty Erickson for the best score in steer wrestling, coming in at 3.4 seconds. Erickson booked his spot for Sunday with a time of 3.5.

Sydney Daines of Innisfail, Alta. advanced in the ladies barrel racing with the day’s best score of 17.90 seconds. Sarah Rose of the U.S. earned the second spot with a 17.98 — edging out Julie Leggett of Kamloops, B.
