Aquino declares July 17 as regular holiday for Eid’l Fitr
MANILA — Malacanang has declared July 17 this year as a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr (Feast of Ramadan).
President Benigno S. Aquino III issued on Thursday the declaration through Proclamation 1070 dated July 6 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa.
“The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid’l Fitr,” said the proclamation.
The proclamation said it is imperative to bring the religious and cultural significance of the feast to the fore of national consciousness.
Eid’l Fitr is celebrated by the Muslim world for three days after the end of the month of fasting.
