11 provincial airports to have LGBT, PWD restrooms
MANILA — Communal comfort rooms will be established in 11 provincial commercial airports in the country and one in the main office of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).
“Communal Toilets or all gender restroom means that anyone can use this restroom regardless of gender identity or expression,” CAAP said in an earlier statement.
CAAP said the project is part of their “Gender Awareness Program” (GAP).
The said comfort rooms will be divided to four–male, female, persons with disabilities and a communal toilet.
Members of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) can make use of the toilet one person at a time.
The toilets will have urinal and a lavatory and it will be painted with neutral colors cream and maroon.
CAAP added that they have conceptualized the plan months before the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United States.
The facilities will be installed in the airports of Butuan, Legaspi, Dipolog, Calbayog, Pagadian, Tuguegarao, Cauayan, Busuanga, Puerto Princesa, Masbate, and Naga.
