From one Claudia to another: Jean Garcia gives advice to Angelica Panganiban

MANILA — For the first time since the ABS-CBN primetime hit “Pangako Sa’Yo” reboot premiered, Kapuso actress Jean Garcia — the original Claudia Buenavista back in 2000 — finally spoke about the remake.

In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP.ph) during a press conference for her GMA7 show “Fully Loaded Afternoon,” Jean said she hasn’t spoken about “Pangako Sa’Yo” to show respect to her current network.

“In respect to GMA, I think pangit naman siguro na magsasalita pa ako na hindi ko naman show, ‘di ba? Kaya hindi rin ako masyado nagsasalita,” she said. “Pero ako, I wish them well. Siyempre show din namin ‘yan. Successful ‘yan.”

(In respect to GMA, I think it wouldn’t be so nice if I say anything about it even if it’s not my show, right? So I don’t talk about it. But as for me, I wish them well. Of course, that used to be our show, too. It was very successful.)

“I also want them to be successful,” Jean said, adding that she meant what she said in all sincerity.

When asked about her thoughts on Angelica Panganiban’s performance as Claudia, Jean admitted that she hasn’t seen a single episode of the show because of her hectic schedule.

“Ang sa akin lang, ang masasabi ko, Angelica Panganiban is a good actress,” Jean said. “So, I guess, kailangan lang natin siyang bigyan ng pagkakataon.”

(For me, all I can say is that Angelica Panganiban is a good actress. So, I guess, we just need to give her a chance.)

She also believes that ABS-CBN has what it takes to make the new ‘Pangako’ as successful as the original.

“Ang ABS-CBN, nagawa nga nila yung ‘Pangako’ na very successful before.

So, I guess magiging okay din ito… Magaling naman ang ABS, magaling ang GMA, kaya sila tumatagal nang ganito. So, at least, alam nila yung ginagawa nila.”

(ABS-CBN was able to make ‘Pangako’ very successful before, so I guess this [remake] will be okay, too… ABS-CBN is great, GMA is great. That’s why they’ve lasted this long in this industry. They know what they’re doing.)

Jean also shared some words of wisdom for Angelica in a footage from PEP.ph: “Angelica, just be yourself, magaling kang artista. Mahalin mo ang ginagawa mo. [Be] passionate about your character. Enjoy-in mo lang siya and everything will be good. Good things happened. So, sana maging maayos.”

(Angelica, just be yourself, you’re a good actress. Love what you do. Be passionate about your character. Enjoy the character and everything will be good.

Good things happened [in the past]. So, I hope this goes well.)
