DepEd oks tuition hike of 1,200 elementary and high schools
MANILA – The Department of Education approved more than 1,200 elementary and high schools’ application for increase in tuition and other fees.
This is following the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) approval of the hike in 313 private higher education institutions.
Of the 1,556 elementary and high school applicants, 1,246 were allowed to increase their tuition fees.
The highest increase according to the department is at 29 percent while the lowest is at 1.25.
The highest number of approved applications come from Region IV-A, with 264 out of 270 applications.
While Region III has the highest number of applications with 493,only 257 of it were approved.
Meanwhile, all applications from Regions II (51), V (70), VI (110), VII (170), VIII (19), IX (4) and XII (30) were approved by the department.
Following these approvals, DepEd assistant secretary Jesus Mateo said all applicants followed the procedures and guidelines in the approval of hike in tuition and other fees.
