BI arrests illegal Chinese passengers
MANILA — Three Chinese nationals were intercepted by Bureau of Immigration (BI) agents for attempting to leave the country at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City early this week.
Arrested were Chen Li Hui, Shi Jinxing, and Ke Meiru on February 9 by BI Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) officers at the boarding gate after prior investigation based on verified information.
Chen was caught using fake extension stamps, entry visa, and arrival and departure stamps while Shi and Ke had improper travel documents.
BI spokesperson Elaine Tan said the agency is conducting an investigation on the issue if there are personnel involved.
“We are conducting a thorough investigation on this matter to find out if there is any culpability on the part of our personnel, and to gather further information on similar incidents,” she said in a statement.
Tan added the intercepted passengers were immediately turned over to the BI Legal Division and consequently charged for deportation.
