SkyTrain service in Metro Vancouver area resumes after electrical fault
VANCOUVER—SkyTrain service was disrupted between two busy stations in the Metro Vancouver area by what transit officials believe was an electrical fault.
Translink says service resumed between the Canada Line between Aberdeen and Richmond-Brighouse stations after being closed for several hours Saturday afternoon.
A video posted to YouTube showed a flash of electrical sparks and smoke billowing out of a train.
A media relations officer with Richmond RCMP says Richmond Fire responded at about 3 p.
m. to reports of smoke on a train.
Dennis Hwang says there were no reports of serious injuries or casualties.
He says the only report he received was that a passenger with disabilities had trouble getting away from the scene, but he did not have any further information on the passenger.
Translink did not immediately confirm there was a fire or whether any passengers were on board at the time.
The transit corporation says supervisors and transit police were on site monitoring the situation and early findings indicate there was an electrical fault.
