Calgary gymnast Madison Copiak wins bronze medal at Toyota International
TOYOTA, Japan—Calgary gymnast Madison Copiak was the top Canadian on the first day of competition at the Toyota International on Sunday, winning a bronze medal in the women’s uneven bars.
Japan’s powerful world championship team led the way, taking four of the five gold medals at the apparatus-finals only event.
Copiak earned 13.100 points on the uneven bars to finish third behind Wakane Inoue and Azumi Ishikura of Japan, who scored 13.
200 and 13.150 points respectively.
In the men’s competition, Robert Watson of Coquitlam, B.C., and Zachary Clay of Chilliwack, B.C., placed sixth and 10th on floor and fifth and eighth on rings respectively while Ken Ikeda of Abbotsford, B.
C., and Jackson Payne of Edmonton were sixth and eighth on pommel horse.
