MANILA — Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) head Director Benjamin B. Magalong on Wednesday said that CIDG operatives arrested one of the suspects that killed a town Mayor in Pangasinan.

Magalong identified the suspect as Salvador Boquiren, who was captured by operatives of the CIDG NCR, CIDG Region 4A with the operational support of the Jalajala Municipal Police Station, at Barangay Lubo, Jalajala, province of Rizal on Tuesday night.

Magalong said Boquiren was arrested by virtue of search warrant for violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition (RA 10591) and an arrest warrant for allegedly raping an 18-year-old housemaid in a resort in Las Piñas City.

The search resulted in the seizure of 2 caliber .38 and several ammunition.

Bonquiren is currently detained at the CIDG detention facility in PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

Magalong said an informant revealed that Boquiren was involved in the killing of Mayor Julian Resuello of San Carlos City, Pangasinan and his close-in security Jojo Martinez sometime in April 2007 during the city fiesta’s Coronation Night in the San Carlos City Plaza.

A witness, who was also a close-in security of the late Mayor and who was wounded during the shooting, confirmed the tip. He positively identified Boquiren after the detectives showed him a photo of the suspect.

Magalong added that there were more than seven assailants involved in the shooting incident.

The family sees politics as the motive behind the killing.

At present, Magalong said the CIDG exerted all efforts to capture the other suspects, who were involved in the murder of Mayor Resuello.

Magalong encourages the public to call the CIDG for information about the suspects at CIDG Hotline 02-722-8983 or send a message at 0929-717-7105 or 0927-717-0752.
