GMA, ABS-CBN big winners in CMMA awards
MANILA – Leading networks GMA and ABS-CBN both received multiple awards during the recently held 36th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA).
GMA received 18 awards, while ABS-CBN bagged 15 recognitions.
The winners in the television category were the Kapuso network’s 24 Oras Weekend (Best News Program) for its Yolanda coverage and family sitcom Pepito Manaloto: Ang Tunay na Kuwento (Best Comedy Program); GMA News TV’s original series on education Titser (Best Drama Series/Program) and pioneering documentary program Reel Time (Best Public Service Program); and GMA News’ comprehensive coverage of the first-ever papal canonization St. John Paul II: We Love You (Best Special Event Coverage).
Other shows that received special citations include: documentary program I-Witness, the country’s first and only wildlife and nature series Born To Be Wild (Best Adult Educational/Cultural Program), and youth-oriented programs Tropang Potchi and Binoy Henyo (Best Children and Youth Program).
Moreover, other programs that were cited were State of the Nation with Jessica Soho (Best News Program) and weekly news magazine program Brigada (Best News Magazine); GMA News’ BantayKaban ng Bayan, which followed the story of the pork barrel scam (Best TV Special); and GMA Cebu’s Visita Iglesia (Best Religious Program).
GMA’s flagship AM radio station Super Radyo DZBB was also recognized for radio programs Imbestigador sa DZBB (Best Public Service Program) and Bangon Na Bayan (Best News Commentary).
Moreover, the network’s sales and marketing arm GMA Marketing and Productions Inc. won the top prize for KFC’s Munting Sakripisyo (Best TV Ad — Branded) and So Lucky’s Kahati ng Kahapon.
In the Music Category, GMA’s Pagbangon (Best Secular Song) of GMA News, produced by the Program Support Department, written by Joseph Saguid, composed by Edward Mitra and sung by Julie Anne San Jose won.
On the other hand, ABS-CBN was recognized for its socially relevant and programs and special projects that promote good values.
The Kapamilya network gathered nine awards for the TV category including Best Station ID for Masayang Muli Ang Kwento Ng Summer, Best TV Special for Yolanda, Best Public Service Program for Failon Ngayon, Best Children and Youth Program for Matanglawin, Best Drama Series for Be Careful With My Heart, and Best Talk Show for ABS-CBN News Channel’s (ANC) Up Close and Personal: A Korina Sanchez Interview.
Honesto andMy Little Juan (Best Drama Series) and ABS-CBN’s Northern Mindanao’s MagTV Na Ato Ni (Best Entertainment Program) were given citations as well.
DZMM, ABS-CBN’s flagship AM radio station won for Pasada Sais Trenta (Best News Commentary) and emergency preparedness program Red Alert (Best Educational Program). Sa Bukiran, meanwhile, won a special recognition in the Best Educational Program category.
Moreover, the network was also recognized for its contributions to the music industry starting off with its
Christmas station ID in 2013 Magkasama Tayo sa Kwento ng Pagbangon which won the Best Music Video.
Alagwa, starring Jericho Rosales and Bugoy Cariño was given the Students’ Choice for Best Film.
Lastly, the Creative Communications Management got a special citation in the Best TV Ad–Public Service category for creating and producing After the Storm.
