LTO clarifies 16-number plate only temporary
MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Friday clarified that the 16-digit plate number currently being used by a number of taxis are only temporary.
In a radio interview, LTO spokesman Jason Salvador said the 16-digit plates seen in taxis are motor vehicle numbers.
Salvador said that the plates are what taxis are temporarily using only to ensure that they are duly registered and added that taxis with new plates would not need to use the plates with 16 digits.
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) via Twitter, also clarified further with this post:
“The 16 digit numbers in new taxis are motor vehicle file numbers that LTO assign to a vehicle upon its registration with said agency.”
LTO, meanwhile, assured that plates will be replaced by next year as part of its Plate Standardization Program.
